The Kuol name has been a popular one in recent weeks, with Central Coast Mariners winger Garang Kuol creating plenty of headlines with his cameo off the bench for the A-Leagues All Stars raising plenty of eyebrows.
Garang’s brother Alou, who starred for the Mariners in the 2020/21 A-League Men campaign earned a move to German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart in the summer of July 2021 and recently made the loan move to 2.Bundesliga side SV Sandhausen in January 2022.
A call-up to the Olyroos ensued and in Australia’s second group game at the AFC U23 Championship against Iraq, following an early red card to Kusini Yengi, Kuol produced a scorpion kick that will go down in the Australian history books.
The Olyroos would go on to draw the game 1-1, needing a win against Jordan in their final group game to guarantee progression to the quarter-finals.
Ben Garuccio in the A-League Men produced a similar goal earlier this year, winning the A-League Men Goal of the Year.
How did Australia react to the goal?
